The Systems and Programming group at MOREnet has an open position for an
undergraduate student beginning now. MOREnet is part of the University
of Missouri and serves as the ISP for public education and libraries in
Missouri. Additional background information is available at www.more.net.
S&P currently runs a variety of production services including web
and email hosting, anti-spam filtering, web application hosting and
development, and server administration, monitoring, and backup. Some
of the upcoming projects include content management system selection
and customization, developing a web front-end to DNS record management,
rewriting authentication backends using Shibboleth, virtualizing servers,
researching IP Anycast, and improving the spam rejection rate (S&P
already blocks 93% of email presented, over 1 billion in the last year).
The successful candidate will have the best combination of aptitude and
interest in the work done by S&P. While there are no absolute technical
requirements, knowing your way around UNIX, C, Java, PHP, Perl, shell
scripts, HTML or XML would be preferable. An understanding of open
source philosophy, culture, and projects is desirable. The schedule is
very flexible and can include full-time work through the summer.
Applicants are invited to demonstrate their written communication skills
by sending a resume (and cover letter, optionally). Clarifying questions
via email are welcome.
Regards,
David K. Drum
