Hello MLU's. I just wanted to introduce myself and
ask a couple of small questions. My name is Gabe and
my wife and I moved to Columbia at the end of last
year. We're having a grand old time so far. Recently
I just got the spark again to try out Linux on my
laptop. Last time I used linux the newest thing out
was Redhat 7 and Corel linux had just reared it's
head. So now I've started out trying a few distro's,
namely Mandrake 10 Community, Debian 9r3 and Fedora
Core 1. I've settled on Fedora for now. It's gone
pretty well. I'm using an IBM 600e with an Orinoco
gold wireless card. Everything is going great except
for my sound card. But that is a known issue with
these laptops, I've been to every damn page on the
internet about it and I still haven't gotten mine
sorted out. But don't sweat that yet, I don't want to
ask about that yet. Here's my 3 questions, oh great
linux genies.

1. What AIM client do you use under linux? I'm
trying to use GAIM but it won't connect to my msn, and
it occasionally just stops communicating I believe.
I'd like to try another client.

2. Does anyone have a suggestion about where to look
for an easy guide to upgrading my kernel to 2.6?

3. I want to move my linux install from this 6g drive
to my 20g. How can I transfer from 1 laptop hd to
another and preserve my linux install? I'm thinking
something like copy entire 6g drive over network to
ftp server on dekstop, boot from cd or floppy to
format new 20g hd to ext3, then ftp old 6g drive
contents onto new drive... Can I do that?

OK!! BREAK!!!

That was a lot, I know, but it's been building up in
me this last week. Any help is appreciated, but heck,
just ignore the questions and say hi at least. :)

Later,
Gabe
