I just spent 30 mins or so talking with a guy who used to be our state AG 
and whose dad was US VP.  He didn't think Pawlenty would be of much use to 
McCain -- Pawlenty couldn't even win Minnesota for McCain in the primary. 
So if that's the deal, who will McCain pick?  We couldn't come up with any 
convincing ideas but we agree that he'll want to pick someone who appeals 
to the conservative base that McCain is finding hard to attract at this 
time.

By the way, when was the last election year that neither major-party 
candidate was either President, Vice President or former Vice President?
