Time: 6 p.m. (General Meetings & Newbie Hangout)
7 p.m. (Presentation)
Date: Tuesday, December 12
Place: Room N15 Memorial Union North
Presenter: Neil Bradshaw
PRESENTATION: Linux Computer Security
Computer security concerning Linux will be evaluated. Physical and network
security will be touched on, but the presentation will focus on securing
linux from the ground up, starting with installation. Post-installation
security will be detailed, as well as defending yourself before, during,
and after an attack. Information about using linux as a firewall mechanism
will also be discussed. Different linux tools will be detailed as well,
including demonstrations of scans, sniffers, and other security evaluation
utilities. If time permits, a live compromise on a box running ReHat with
no patches will be done to demonstrate the dangers of insecure linux
boxes. The presentation will be a fun and informative way to learn about
this serious and often controversial topic.
