Presentation:
Introduction to TeX, presented by Rob Judd. TeX is a complete desktop
publishing system for creating professional quality typeset pages of any
kind. It is especially good at typesetting mathematics. TeX is free and
has been ported to almost every platform. Moreover, documents written
with TeX are entirely portable; the same input file will produce the
same output file on any TeX implementation.
We will briefly cover installing and setting up TeX under any Unix
system. The rest of the talk will be devoted to using TeX, from writing
your first document to understanding some of its more powerful features.
Along the way I hope to explain some of the details behind how the
program works, and give some information on maintaining a TeX
distribution. Most of the examples will use LaTeX, a package of macros
that runs on top of TeX.
Hope to see you all there!
