I bought my wife a 8gb iPhone on Friday. I have to say, it's simply
magnetic, even with the obvious annoyances like the touch-screen
keyboard. I expected it but it didn't make it any easier to swallow
that my unlimited datapackage with my Blackjack for $20 would not work
with the new phone and we're gonna have to cough up $30 to cover her
phone. I haven't check the policy but I'm fairly certain that, unlike
my unlimited data package which covered all three phones on our account,
they'll probably force us to play $30 for each iPhone on the account.
I'm up for equipment upgrade in 25 days and I don't know what I'm going
to do. I want the G1 but there's no way I'm leaving ATT for
T-what-a-joke-mobile. I want the keyboard. I want the ability to
upgrade the memory and swap multiple batteries. I consider the 16gb
static battery restrictions of the iPhone to simply be a joke.
I tell you what's really really pissing me off is that Apple seems to
have used a different specialized little white USB cable for every
device they make. This is a cable that has 4 data conductors and
ground/common/shield. It literally makes me sick.
However... that being said... in 25 days, I'll probably buy a 16gb
iPhone... I don't see that I have any alternatives and I'm not going
back to a phone with a small screen, no wifi, no touchscreen, no 'real'
integrated mp3 capability, and the half-assed and expensive expansion
software availability with
hit-or-miss-if-your-phone-processor-or-java-or-whatever supports under
WM6 or PalmOS, or similar.
I don't like not having alternatives. I don't like the fact that ATT
turned down the G1. I don't like the way I feel I'm over a barrel with
these companies.
Did I mention that ATT doesn't offer any sort of insurance on the
iPhone? I could have insured my blackjack, but they never told me (it
was added after I bought mine), so I did not... I would have in a second.
