If you still like Dell, I'm familiar with the Dell 2950 server:

The PERC / DRAC / OpenManage are easier to work with as far as
sysadmin functions.

The HP Proliant DL380 G5's are also well liked.

As long as you get the fastest quad core cpu, with enough ram and
those as many large SAS drives as you can fit then it should be a big
performance boost.

My group only does RHEL, and there are lots more Oracle installations
now that we have larger servers.  (Oracle RAC too) (although SUSE is
being forced on one project)
