You could probably also go with Ubuntu server, which has kernels as
far back as 386.  The install is very minimal: just modules, a shell,
and an account.  You add everything else.  Total install time: < 10
minutes.  Total size: <500 MB, not including swap.

We've got it running on a 360 MHz Celeron with 64 MB RAM and a 3 GB
HDD.  Works great as our proxy server, web server, ssh server, DNS
server, DHCP server. and time server.
