The server has gathered several subdomains over the years of musical
servers, www.coe.missouri.edu, tiger.coe.missouri.edu
iats-coe1.missouri.edu. They will simply delete the subdomains rather
than maintain their entry in the DNS pointing to the new server. That's
sufficient, but even if they were to maintain them, they are not going
to allow any ~ access of accounts. They are setting everybody up with
their own subdomain, e.g., kidtools.missouri.edu,
strategytools.missouri.edu, vrcbd.missouri.edu... etc. What's ironic is
that 8.5 years ago I _tried_ to get the subdomain 'kidtools' and was
refused... told that they did not do that *grin* Now they are insisting.

Unless this is just academic, I've explained myself poorly.
I'm just looking for a solution for our need to continue the
existence of public urls (example
http://tiger.coe.missouri.edu/~vrcbd/) in a world where the powers
that be insist that due to the tilde and the security concerns
associated, these addresses will be orphaned...
How will they be ophaned? What is the mechanism? Will HTTP requests
be blocked at the perimeter so that they never get to your server?
This part needs to be explained to me. Or are you only talking about
accounts on the server called tiger.coe.missouri.edu?
