2005? I'd love to go there!

Seriously, one of the problems for meetings is that a lot of people on this list have moved out of Columbia, out of Missouri, out of the midwest and even out of the country. (I'm in Minnesota.) That's probably good for the list (more people), but not so good for the meetings. People in Columbia will have to take action. If people on the list aren't interested, it might be because they are in California or Maryland and not because MLUG meetings are a bad idea.

When was the last time that anyone put up MLUG flyers on campus? That was how I found out about MLUG back in 1999. As people move away, others have to be brought in to replace us. The list can survive with little maintenance (until we get so old that we start to die off!), but the local face-to-face MLUG requires a constant flow of new members and that requires someone taking initiative.

As a long-distance member, I have no complaint about the MLUG President (is it Adam?), but honestly, for you local folks, it's probably time to have an election and put someone in charge who really wants to do things locally. An active President can make an enormous difference -- he could bring in speakers, arrange installfests, organize regular meetings, work on recruiting, etc.

Mike
