I'm curious. Do you want to dual-boot, then, or just wipe the OSX and go
with Ubuntu completely? I've never worked on a MacBook, so I may be wrong,
but the impression I get from here:

is that the only thing BootCamp does is work as a bootloader. If you're
trying to dual-boot, it says you can just resize the OSX partition with
diskutil (Also, I remember being able to get to the disk manager from the
OSX install disks). It's been awhile, but I remember dual-booting to Yellow
Dog Linux on an iMac a few years ago.
Have you tried just booting a livedisk to see if it works?
