it's certainly pretty enough, but as far as being useful? meh...
It might be related to my particular dual screen setup, but if you
notice that, in the picture, there is only one AWN dock on one side.
I've tried to run multiples, or find a way to stretch it all the way
across, and have not yet been successful. At this point, I kinda view
AWN as gimmicky, although I like it alot more on my laptop with just the
one screen (running Ubuntu Studio) even though it tends to take up a
considerable amount of screen real estate without auto-hiding.
Also, and I'm pretty sure this *is* related to my setup, it does not
show windows from all the viewports, but then neither does the gnome
taskbar. This is primarily an problem when I minimize a set of grouped
windows(Compiz Win-S grouped), because they essentially disappear from
view. Not a huge problem, as part of the reason I group windows is
because it's easier to flip back and forth between related windows, but
is something I've run into a few times.
Overall, Ubuntu has really polished up nicely although using it, I've
noticed a real decrease in the amount of work I'm willing to do to get
something working.
On a side note, for anyone that was interested in Eve a little while
back, they released Mac and linux clients today:
