A glance at newegg.com would seem to suggest that the best price per GB
is around 320GB these days, and while we don't need all that storage
just yet, it wouldn't hurt to have a little extra for the future. I'm a
little bit tied down with other things right now, but once I have a
little more time to focus on MLUG stuff I may very well pass the hat
around. :)
I agree that a 320 GB drive is a good idea and you can get one for less
than $100 after S/H (from NewEgg.com: Western Digital Caviar RE 320GB 3.5"
SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM, $89.99 + $6.14 S/H).
I'd be willing to pay half of that - $50 - so just tell me when you want
to do it.
By the way, in terms of GB per dollar, the 750 MB drive is the better
price at exactly twice the price for the 320 GB drive, and with free
shipping:
320 GB / $90 = 3.56 GB/dollar
750 GB / $180 = 4.17 GB/dollar
It's too big for our needs, I would think, but if someone is looking for
an HDD this is the drive on NewEgg.com: Western Digital Caviar SE16 750GB
3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM, free shipping!
