I also am thinking about switching to bash, but bash is not part of the base code of FreeBSD (the base includes tcsh and the old sh). Being not part of the base does not make it impossible, not by any means, but it can introduce a certain awkwardness (like you cannot make bash the default shell when you first install FreeBSD).


That's not a big deal because whenever you create a user account, you can make bash the shell for that account. Just make the path to bash the last thing on the line (after the last colon) for that user's record in /etc/passwd
