I played the 14 day free trial to this game a while back, and yes it can
be a game that can draw you in.
Unlike other MMORPG (World of Warcraft, EverQuest, etc.) this game is a
much slow paced game and is meant for the working man (or someone with a
life outside of their virtual friends). In other words, you don't feel
obligated to be playing this game ever waking hour just so you can keep
up with your buddies or guild (some guilds have minimum requirements as
to how much you have to play each day/week).
They do this by making a real-time skill system. If you want a skill or
advancement, it takes so many hours to study the subject before you can
gain a level. What is even better is that you don't have to be logged
in and playing for that time to count.
When you are docked in a station you are 100% safe from attack. Unless
of course the space station is destroyed, although very very very rare
and very difficult to do. It has happened at least a couple times since
the game's release.
Game play is a little slow. You can choose to be a miner which can
really make the game seem like a grind. You can also be a stick jock
and fly around in fighters collecting bounties and such. There are
other career paths as well, but I cannot remember them off hand.
Like in other MMORPGs there are guilds but they are called Corporations.
Lastly, this game is light on system requirements. As far as I can tell
this game mostly runs off of html, xml interfaces with java applets in a
specialized browser window.
Hope this helps.
Adam

Can you give us a brief description of what it is like to play it? It
looks pretty cool...

I'm getting the impression that it can really draw a person in. If your
docked ship can be destroyed while you sleep, you must feel like staying
awake!
