You could use OpenSUSE. They have a minimal (server) install option
available in the installer. SUSE uses RPMs too, and it appears that SUSE
is about as well-supported in the third-party RPM department as RHEL is
and probably more than Fedora. 

But then you have to deal with rug and such instead of yum or just use
the YaST GUI or ncurses config tools to do package management. And then
there's the whole Novell-MS deal that does NOT involve OpenSUSE, but you
still would take ribbing from buddies and in any online situation for
using it.
