there is a base group package set in fedora 7 as well, but if you try
to install just that it breaks. at least the last time i did it.

the thing is, though, that ubuntu and debian are quick and easy to
install and provide me with a functional bare-bones system out of the
box. i don't need to "hack" the installer to make it work.
