If you want it, I have a Belkin F5D6050 (only 802.11B, but it is free) that
some people have gotten working in linux (see
http://at76c503a.berlios.de/devices.html for more info on wireless linux).
Just let me know where to send it to. I used it at work as a test AP on a
pc with a modem to test wireless on laptops before I was told to take it
down since if we needed an outside wireless AP, the dept would provide it.
Yeah, right, the one we have is firewalled 7 days from sunday and loops back
through our state connection, so we can't get out of our network and HAVE to
access it with VPN; a fat lot of help that is to test with. At least we
kiddies won't worry about getting out of the playground, but we can get out
of the sanbox now...

Subject: [MLUG] recommended Linux-friendly PCI or USB wireless adapter?
The Asus motherboard we used on our Linux box has every feature known
to man except for on-board wireless networking. To make a long story
short, the place we want to put this box is a long way from where the
router is (and kind of has to be).
One alternatives are to run about 50 feet around a corner, along the
"baseboard" (actually a wall full of book cases), along some actual
baseboard and then up and over a sliding door, around another corner,
and into the box, and then pray that one or more cats do not decide it
is a toy. (We rent, so doing a drop is not really an option here.
The other alternative is to find a robustly supported wireless card
for the linux box (and its AMD64 kernel) that works well with Ubuntu
7.04. A USB 2.0 dongle thing would be okay, if any of those usually
work with Linux, else we have PCI slots to work with (or even an extra
firewire port, for that matter.
Does anybody have any recommendations here?
Thanks again for your help.
jking
