I don't know who he is, but his ideas make sense to me. I'd add one thing
to what he wrote: Many "Linux enthusiasts" are the local computer guys
and gals who make recommendations and help people maintain their
computers. If you can give the enthusiasts something they really like,
that is easy to maintain, they are likely to recommend it to others. This
is one way to move from the enthusiast market to the mainstream market.
Most people only care about a few programs and functions for their
computers. We have to make those things work for free under Linux and
we're in. What does that include? Web browser, email client, word
processor, spreadsheet, what else? We need for a few things to work such
as digital cameras and scanners.

My camera has to be mounted from a script and never tried a scanner, but
think
it would be about the same.
Could we add an OpenX library to take the place of DirectX? If it were open
and could replace DirectX, games might be more easily ported and that is
where linux is really hurting, at least where I am looking at it from. I
can
make my SUSE laptop work with everything but the games now (not
counting the dead battery) :(
