That is actually the one part I am committed not to compromising on. I
suspect this case will end up holding many systems over time, and I
really used to HATE cheap cases. Plus, I got this one for $49,
(admittedly without a power supply).


Well, that's a good price, and you're getting value for your money. You can use the case until the industry switches form factors again.

This is what I will have to avoid. The continued absence of (loud)
rock music in my son's life means he has really sensitive hearing, as
does my daughter, and there are sounds that would really be
non-starters, including this one.

As I understand the physiology of hearing, eventually my ears will become deaf to this particular frequency -- Problem solved!
