Interesting. Of course part of this is wanting to build it...
Antec cases are really nice, but you can save lots of money by getting
a cheap case and power supply. Even the low-end cases rarely draw
blood these days.
That is actually the one part I am committed not to compromising on. I
suspect this case will end up holding many systems over time, and I
really used to HATE cheap cases. Plus, I got this one for $49,
(admittedly without a power supply).
I have a cheap power supply in the computer on my desk. Its switching
frequency seems to be around 10kHz, right at the upper limit of my
hearing and very very annoying. I don't mind the white noise of fans
or the rumble of hard disk heads. But this constant high-pitched
whine is slowly driving me insane.
This is what I will have to avoid. The continued absence of (loud)
rock music in my son's life means he has really sensitive hearing, as
does my daughter, and there are sounds that would really be
non-starters, including this one.
