There are other contenders for the "GL-based successor to the *nix
GUI", but I picked on Beryl because it's agreed you need at least
decent GL performance to make it worthwhile, and if a card would work
for this, it would likely work decentrly for other things.
These are some things that I think really stretch the GL capabilities of
a video card:
1. xscreensaver or xlock running the atunnels mode.
2. bzflag - in particular you can select different levels video detail,
which distinguish between good and awesome cards.
3. Lego Star Wars - but this only works under Windows. Again you can
ask for different levels of video detail.
