Also the 7600GT is a gammers card which is quickly being obsoleted by
the 8000 series. That does mean it will be dropping in price fast, but
there is no point of getting the 7600GT or even a GT edition unless you
plan to play 3D intensive games such as Unreal 2k7, or the latest in the
Battlefield line. If the primary application is for a GL intensive
Linux GUI, then a lesser card of either of those series will work fine.
My previous response about my 6600GT was primarily to demonstrate the
heat of the 6000 and 7000 series cards.

And that card runs for about $180.
I think Jon wants to figure out how low he can go and still be happy
with
his Beryl performance. The $180 solution would definitely work, but is
there a cheaper solution that will be adequate?
