I am running a Chaintech Nvidia 6600GT, and yes that card does run hot.
The 7000 series is only a modified 6000 series. Before I swapped out
the fan for a water block, that card was averaging about 50 to 55
celcius just running windows XP. After running an intensive 3D game I
checked as quick as possible and it was upper 50s which tells me that it
was probably in the 60s while running the game. The fan wasn't too loud
however.

It should also be noted that I only ran it with air cooling for about 2
hours before converting it to my water system. On the water system and
overclocked it runs upper 30s to lower 40s.

Recently I gave that original fan/sink to a friend of mine to replace
the bad fan/sink on his 6600. I used Arctic Silver 5 as the grease, and
he reports that his card does run a little cooler now. Perhaps changing
the grease is the way to go should you get an Nvidia.

Cool; or, actually...is it cool? We were thinking about a fairly small
case here, and one review at NewEgg suggests that this runs hot and
the fan is possibly noisy. What's your experience?
