As I just edited about 3000 ID3 tags for use with my Roku Soundbridge using mt-daap (now FireFly http://www.fireflymediaserver.org/) as the music server, I found iTunes to be the best and quickest method, but there is not a Linux version of iTunes as of yet. I also used Rhythmbox (iTunes clone) in Gnome for the task. Let's keep our fingers crossed that Apple might actually release iTunes and QuickTime for Linux. I just installed Linux on my Playstation 3 and I would love to be able to download episodes to it and play them back on my TV.

Good luck. It is a tedious task.

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing. I want something that allows me to something like this:

id3fixer --artist "The Beatles" *Beatles*/*.mp3

And that would change the "artist" tag to "The Beatles" (without the quotes) from whatever it was previously in every file matching the pattern. In this example I'd want to do this for both ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags.

It might also be possible to append something to a field instead of overwriting it, e.g., in a comment field.

The goal of batch editing is to reduce tedium.
