OK, so I installed Fedora Core 6 and everything is running fine except the screen is stuck at 800x600 and the Screen Res tool doesn't provide any higher resolutions (I have a 1680x1050 LCD). Anyone have any thoughts? My system: old G4 Dual 450s with 128 ATI Rage.
I found my monitor in the Admin->Display window, but if I set the resolution to the proper size then my monitor freaks and says it can't display the resolution, and its back to the rescue cd.
Thanks for any tips,
Damian
What kind of monitor is it? Is it one of those Dell widescreen deals?
Anyway, use google to search using the name of your monitor, and
modeline, and 1680x1050.
e.g.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=modeline+Dell+2005FPW+1680x1050&btnG=Search
Follow the various links, and you should find something like
ModeLine "1680x1050" 119.0 1680 1728 1760 1840 1050 1053 1059 1080
-hsync +vsync
which you put into the appropriate place in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
