Depends on your desktop environment, but straight X11 uses the "xset" command to do this. We don't run X11 on any of our remote Linux boxes, but disabling mouse acceleration works for Windows and Mac OS X.

Subject: [MLUG] red hat linux and dell 2161ds mouse troubles
when using the 2161 with linux the mouse won't sync up and the cursor
is very erratic.
red hat support offered the 'psmouse.proto' kernel boot parameter, but
it failed to correct the issue.
dell doesn't know. they didn't even try to guess.
anyone out there experienced this or similar problems using a console
switch? is there something in x i can adjust to resolve it?
it's very annoying.
thanks!
