Try booting Unbuntu or Knoppix. The drivers are fairly complete, and you
can do a hard drive install of either one to most PC's.
The worst driver issues I've run into is with WiFi cards and 802.1x
authentication scripts. You can get them to work, but it's a pain
because it's more of a script than just setting your parameters within a
utility. I've never seen a problem with the track pad since most are
similar to the generic mouse drivers where it matters.
