Apple already does protect content. iTunes and the iPod are a good
example of that. Also now that Mac has switched to Intel, I would also
assume that the Viiv hardware (which has content protection built into
the hardware) comes built into the Macs.

Apple supplies both hardware and software, so they don't have
compatibility concerns. Will Apple have to produce devices that protect
content? I don't know about that -- that's a good question.
