Thanks.
On a similar subject, what do most folks use (when stuck with XP) to rip
cd's to mp3 for more convenient access?
I use CDex with the newest LAME encoder (engine 3.97b or better, but I
think that's the default now). I got a few tips from people on this list
in recent years. Here are some of my choices:
Under the "Generic" tab:
ID3 Tag Version: ID3-V1 & ID3-V2
Track Nr Format: 0 N / 0 TN
Under the "Filenames" tab, I like this:
%1 - %Y - %2\%7 - %4
Under the "CD Drive" tab I set "Ripping Method" to "Paranoia, Full" which
will catch any errors on the CD. I've been happy with the results.
Under the "Encoder" tab, I use these settings:
Thread Priority: Normal
Encoder: Lame
Encoder Options
Version MPEG 1 , BitRate Min: 160 kpbs, Max: 224 kbps
Mode: Stereo
Quality: High (q=2)
VBR Method: VBR-New
VBR Quality: VBR 2
Output Samplerate: Auto
Some people will recommend different settings and I'm happy to hear those
recommendations, but this definitely works well enough for me. If I were
to increase the bitrates, the songs would probably not sound different to
me, but the files would get bigger.
Mike
