I believe you. Three times as long will still work for me.

Have you looked for an open-source LIMS? Googling that phrase found several interesting projects, such as the Plone-based Bika: http://bika.sourceforge.net/ or the php (and broken, but that's redundant) HalX: http://halx.genomics.eu.org/

This is a good idea, but the "About HalX" page is completely uninformative and the HalX "Documentation" link returns a parse error. This isn't inspiring a lot of confidence in their project! ;-) Bika is also pretty new, I guess. They have 88 messages in the archive for the user email distribution list. On the other hand, I think Bika has a lot of functionality that we can use, so we'll probably try to do something with it.
