Ever contemplate robotics?
The parallel port is pretty easy to hack...

Build your own distro... It is cake to build your own Gentoo LiveCD (hard part is establishing the chroot environment and that really isn't all that hard)

What is the end goals of your project(s)? (hard to have a project just to have one)

I guess my post was unclear. That would explain why this thread has been all over the place.

OK, here are some examples of what I mean:

Building a MythTV box is a "project"

Building a MAME/NES/SNES/Genesis/Playstation/Atari/Colecovision/C64/ Lisa emulation box is a "project"

Building a digital audio production station is... you guessed it: a "project"

Tinkering around with cool FOSS software to do interesting and novel things for free... that's what I'm talking about.

This thread has been fun. Wikipedia, mini-lathes, magic 8 balls and slinkys... And for the magic 8 ball folks: http:// www.cavernsofblood.com/magic-8-ball/magic-8-ball.html?
