After giving some thought to this, I am not sure the makers of the movie did as good a job of proving their main point.
They proved that the election could be tampered with, I conceded that right up front and that is serious enough to warrant concern and oversight. However, the makers of the documentary set out to find out how an election machine could COUNT backwards. The one thing they did not make clear was which machine they were referring to. Was it the central tabulating computer? Or was it the individual voting machines? Either way, they failed to address these main points.
They never showed a machine actually DISPLAYING a negative number. No poll tapes they found showed any negative numbers on them. Even their test they performed did not produce a negative result.
They never explained how the card had been changed. They said they changed the card but they failed to say how many votes they swung one way or the other. They essentially proved that they were able to effect the outcome, but they never proved they had control over the outcome. We see that the end result was what they wanted, but could it have been a lucky coincidence? Without the controls of the experiment we may never know.
The point here is that if it is so easy to change the votes on the card, then why not go all the way and prove that the machine could produce a negative result? That was the point was it not? Could it be that the machine would not ALLOW a negative result and the only way to prove that the tampering could happen is to display it the way they did? Remember at the beginning, the lady in the video said she saw a negative number, no attempt to hide it, so how did that get there? That is still unproven after watching the video.
