So I'm home this afternoon...my wife had run to the store and our twin 16-month old boys were taking a much-needed nap.

And the doorbell rings...

I open the door, and this older woman was standing there - she said, "Hi I'm Mona, a volunteer from the Republican Party. Can Jim Talent count on you for your vote?"

Now, these people have been harassing the crap out of us...for whatever reason, I've never experienced this sort of thing before. We get about 3 a day, and old Mona was the third for this Saturday.

So I replied, "Not if he keeps ringing my doorbell!" and slammed the door in her face.

At this point, the boys woke up bawling their heads off. I brought them into the living room to get them calmed down, but they were inconsolable. Spying our digital camera, I grabbed it...and snapped a picture of them bawling. I went outside, and took another of the sign taped over the doorbell that says "Please do not ring doorbell". Yes, that's right - Mona pushed the doorbell *through a sign telling her not to*.

I went to my laptop, and composed a letter to Jim Talent at his Washington D.C. office. I explained what happened, and said that while I was considering voting for him (in large part because of his pro-stem cell research stance), I didn't appreciate this door-to-door vote begging. I then printed both the picture of the boys crying and the picture of the doorbell sign on my wife's Sony snapshot printer, tucked said pictures and the letter into an envelope, and chucked it in the mailbox.

Think that they'll get the point? I somehow doubt it, but it made me feel better.
