Perhaps it wasn't heat and laptop HDD suck - but this Seagate has a 5
yr. warranty and I've had excellent history with Seagate which makes
me wonder.
I am 4 for 4 with respect to burning up laptop HDDs. The high heat
environment combined with the small form factor just isn't good for
drive longevity - doesn't matter what brand. For the record though, I
will only use Seagates these days because they do seem to fail a lot
less often.
I would stick with the 5400 RPM drives if you are at all concerned about
losing another one. 7200 RPM drives put out significantly more heat.
