How can I tell that I've nailed it? Is there a standard way of testing?

I've always been curious, and since I've ordered the same monitor, I'll be in the same boat, so I went googling. This is what I've found so far:

http://www.easyrgb.com/easyrgbpc.html

so you can pay $800 for a program to calibrate a $120 monitor! That must be for pros who paid thousands for their monitors.

If you want a quick test to see if you've "nailed it", you can do
easyrgb's web-based calibration:
http://www.easyrgb.com/calibrate.php

It's just for their site, but at the end, they show the difference between native and their tweaked settings.

That was fun and easy and took only about 2 minutes. It also gave me a clue about how well my monitor is calibrated. That is a good site.
