I remembered that incorrectly. The first name was Lindows, not Winspire.
I don't think they ever called it Winspire! So I should have written
this:

They were sued by Microsoft for using the name "Lindows."
By the way, I just read about their CNR scheme here:

That's a clever way to give the user something worthwhile for $20/year so
that you can have some revenue. I'm assuming that it works as advertised!
