A new one would be more than $500 for sure. The old G4 ones can be had for somewhat less.

But speaking of cheap monitors, two weekends ago I got a nice 19"
monitor for my son's Mac mini for free at the Montgomery County
recycling center.  This place, by the way, is a truly awesom place.
They had old computer equipment stacked up like cord wood, and I
correctly surmised that some of the bigger, more stylish looking CRT
monitors were probably perfectly fine, but had been replaced by LCDs
by their style-conscious owners.  Man, I remember when a monitor like
that would cost you $3000.

I have to stay below that.  Also, they might have a
harder time getting software for it.

I'm not sure why you'd think that, but okay...
