If you have access to both sides at the same time you may want to
give iperf a shot...

Behavior:
TCP connections that are idle more than a couple of minutes will
mysteriously vanish. For example, a telnet or SSH session, left at
a prompt for two minutes without input, would stop responding and
eventually time out.
This happens when I'm connected to servers that I use at work and
that will stay connected all the time when I'm working there. How
can I track down why this is?
By the way, I've got the default login working. Misprint in the
user guide. [blank]/admin not admin/admin. So I'll probably try
and keep using this thing for a while.
Thanks for the great replies.

Hi Chris,
If your really set on getting a new firewall, I recommend that you
take a look at the cyberguard sg300. We use this firewall at a
couple of our field locations at work. I have one setup at our
columbia location (we use mediacom hs for the internet connection
at this location) with a vpn tunnel back to our home office...never
had a problem. It's based on the linux 2.4 kernel.

I'm having problems with the default login on my router.
It's a Linksys and a royal piece of crap. I'm looking for a stand
alone cable modem and seperate router that has decent performance.
The Linksys drops packets all the time - i.e. you can't have an
idle ssh session for more than a couple of minutes before it
disconnects and now I can't seem to get it back to the default
login by pressing the reset button.
Any suggestions on what to get? It would be nice if the
combo provided decent security and is compatible with my Mediacom ISP.
