Well, if they specify not to use a different modem, that doesn't rule out adding a router =)

I know that I've told Mediacomm in the past that I had a router behind their modem and they didn't make a big deal about it except to request that I run directly to the PC for troubleshooting.

Last I asked my Mediacom contacts, Mediacom does not allow any modems on their network other than the ones they supply/rent. Although, that could just be their preference they were telling rather than a hard set policy.

As far as routers are concerned, I feel that Netgear makes an excellent product. I am using one of their WiFi G-band routers with the wifi doubling to 108mbps, as well as an expansion 24 port switch. Both have been running rock solid for almost 3 years now.
