If the router is not a brick yet, I highly recommend hyperwrt54 firm
ware. It adds a lot of functionality to the stock linksys router. I have
had it up and running for around 3 years, with little to no problems.

I hope that this helps.

Subject: [MLUG] Decent router, cable modem

I'm having problems with the default login on my router. It's a Linksys
and a royal piece of crap. I'm looking for a stand alone cable modem
and seperate router that has decent performance. The Linksys drops
packets all the time - i.e. you can't have an idle ssh session for more
than a couple of minutes before it disconnects and now I can't seem to
get it back to the default login by pressing the reset button.

Any suggestions on what to get? It would be nice if the combo provided
decent security and is compatible with my Mediacom ISP.

Chris
