They can sue but they've developed a huge negative spin with artists and
consumers both. Technology has made most of their profit schemes
irrelevant. Unless they learn to evolve to the new situation they're in
they will eventually run out of money and die. Corporations don't have
to go broke to crash - they just have to lose stockholder trust.
If you think they're going to quietly kick back and let that happen,
then you have lost touch with reality. Just because it's immoral and
unjust doesn't mean they won't sue every dam person in the country if
they think they can get away with it.
We are hearing their dying breaths now. These industries are really
harmful and it will be good that they break down under the stress of
advancing technology. Average people can now produce relatively high
quality digital video and stereo music and put them on CDs and DVDs.
The giants that ruled those fields for decades will finally have to
let some of the little guys have a shot. Let the customer be exposed
to all the options and let the market decide who provides the best
product for the best price.
