Not exactly. AT&T at least, and I think Verizon as well, are both pushing fiber to the home so they can offer VoIP and IPTV. Now the cable companies may not like the latter, I don't know.
Perhaps I'm wrong, and you should correct me if I am, but this isn't
about prioritizing burst over sustained, this about prioritizing Google
over Yahoo and, in this case, that's the cart going in front of the horse.
This is exactly right. My case was a technical argument for QoS in a network, not for charging for it. What I don't know since no company has actually declared a plan for tiered service is if this is about Google over Yahoo or about paying a premium for not using the telco/cable companies services or both.
