That you can do, since it *is* gmail. (Interaction with POP I don't
know about; but I think you can get it to forward to your pop account
and keep it on the server. Mess with the preferences, etc.
I actually have been using gmail via pop to thunderbird for a while now
and can say that, barring the fact that it doesn't appear to forward
stuff from me to me, I've been pretty ok with it.
There's an option to archive items that have been pop'd so, other than
the fact that I don't have a common imap storage location (home server
hardware crashed and I apparently can't be bothered to fix it =), it
works pretty well.
