I am trying to setup a computer for a friend that will
be used mainly just for office type tasks, using
openoffice, and webbrowsing. The problem is that this
computer is connected to a cable modem and is the
gateway for another computer running Windows. I could
easily modify the configuration files and get this to
work, but they want a gui program that they can use to
set this up and will be as easy as Windows. What
programs are there for this and what are the easiest?
I have tried Guidedog, Guarddog, and Firestarter, but
they do not seem to work very well. I am trying to
set this up on SimplyMepis Linux.

While I second the suggestion of Webmin, I think you'd be alot better
off dedicating a box to the "gateway" functions and setting up the
workstation behind that. A typical gateway box can be an incredibly old
and slow workstation (we actually run a 486 w/32M for a gateway for 30+
people at one point).

We simply can't idiot-proof everything. Sometimes the idiots just have
to suffer and die.
