I am a huge fan of debian and use debian-administration.org as a good
reference.

Honestly, though, debian has a huge support base and a simple google
search usually yields exactly what I need. If not, the man pages are
often very helpful and the example config files that come with most
packages make common setups a breeze.
As far as SAMBA, I highly recommend using SWAT or Webmin to configure it
for the first time. Its a lot easier than playing in config files and
can help take some of the confusion out of it.
Josh.
