True, very true. When are they going to have a laptop with an
integrated solar panel on top? Or find a way to capture the processor
heat and convert back to electricity? If you could just convert a
fraction of heat output to electricity, it would extend the run-time of
the laptop...
I once heard that people who studied crashed UFO's were amazed that the waste products were all recycled back into the system to make the systems really efficient. I dunno about UFO's but that IMO is the sign of a mature technology. It's so well made that it's own waste products are reused. For portable devices where power is a serious issue I think this is the kind of thing that will really make a product a hit. 10% extra battery life on your cell, laptop, or iPod could make a big difference.
As to their being out of date, well, I still travel to the backwoods to
work on friends pc's, locations that barely have phones and where
cellphones don't work. What do you do if you need a driver real quick?
Drive 20 miles back to broadband? With attitudes like these, it's a
wonder most techies don't look down their noses at 3rd world countries
(and communities in the US) that don't have wireless everywhere, or at
least broadband. We as a society have sunk to a level where we could
not survive if we had any real hardships. Look at Haiti, could any of
us do anything we usually do in those conditions?
Most techies do look down their noses at people in the backwoods. To bad they aren't enlightened enough to help improve the quality of life for people in the boonies or third world countries. I get to sound like a nut for continually advocating concern for strangers and efforts to help them.
