Title: Re: [MLUG] SuSE 10 on a Dell Latitude D810 lappy

BTW, I haven’t looked really hard for this, but has any one set up the 802.1x secured authentication up under Linux? That just seams like it would be a bear to set up.

Also, it seams that Linux wireless is either solid or sketchy. Ndiswrapper is a bit sketchy in it’s self when you are setting it up. Once you have it, it’s not too bad. You just have to make sure you have the proper kernel module and script, load the windows driver into the system and then get the hot plugging system to load it all and do the required steps once the driver is loaded. If you’re not on a popular chipset, it can be a bit of a pain.

I’ve also seen where iwconfig doesn’t seam to set the WEP key properly. Then there are all those strange drivers that use the private command system, iwpriv or something like that. Uhg! It is getting better, but it’s still a ways off for some cards.

I have it pretty much working at this point, at least wlan0 shows up in the ifconfig list.

Also I have ultimate signal strength in KWiFiManager.

I am just not able to pull a ipaddy at this point.

I am working with iwconfig, but have yet to get the correct combination.

# iwconfig wlan0 essid <SSID> key <hex key>

Remember - you'll probably need ndiswrapper from source in SuSE 10.The
RPM is unlikely to work.
