One note about paying iTunes for songs - remember that they are not free (as in speech) and you are at apple's whim to change how you can listen to content you "own" at any time. The music industry is despicable. One thing worse than the music industry are the legislators who help them to abuse their customers.

By the way, there are F/OSS iTunes clones now that are *more* functional than iTunes itself.

Can they make a nice database for music files? iTunes seems to be good for that -- it will search the HDD and construct a listing of all music using info from the ID tags. What's a better way to do that?
