nevermind, seems to be a limitation of the 2.4.xx kernel used in
debian. i found a thread suggesting to recompile with config_himem4g
and config_himem enabled. fedora core 4 recognizes it just fine, so i
guess the 2.6.xx kernels work out of the box.
